Product Details

This .44 caliber revolver was manufactured by the Dance Brothers in Columbia, Texas, as part of a larger effort by Texas gun makers to provide firearms for Confederate troops during the Civil War.

Unlike the Union, the South had few factories. As a result, Texas and the Confederacy faced a critical shortage of firearms. Only a trickle of guns could be smuggled through the Union blockade of the coast. The Texas government decided to encourage the production of firearms at home.

James Henry Dance and his brothers established J. H. Dance and Company in 1858, manufacturing gristmills and cotton gins. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the company also began producing firearms. Because of the Confederacy's high demand for firearms, the company's employees were granted exemption from military service. Over the next few years the company produced 300¢€"400 revolvers. One of the last known shipments of Dance revolvers, 25 pistols, was sent to Houston in April 1865. When the war ended shortly thereafter, the Dances returned to Columbia to again manufacture gristmills and cotton gins.

Review: Received my Pietta Dance Bros cap and ball last week. Looks great. I am very pleased with it. Although I haven't had the chance to see how it performs, I look forward to shooting this fine looking replica.

Review: Great quality and price. I own over a dozen black powder pistols, including some originals, and am very pleased with this revolver. The Service Department was great too!

Review: The sale and delivery of this Dance Brothers revolver could not have been smoother. EMF is great to work with. The revolver is not historically accurate, but still a nice gun to shoot. It is based on the Colt 1851 frame and grip, so it handles well. It does not seem to be as accurate as my Pietta 1858, but it is adequate for what it is. The fit and finish was very good. So if you want a variation on the Colt design, this is a good choice in 44 caliber.

Review: This is a very nice percussion revolver. Mine has a barrel/cylinder gap of .004-.005 inches. This makes it difficult to use paper cartridges as paper fragments jam the cylinder rotation. Loaded with loose powder and ball , the revolver is very dependable and accurate. The lack of a recoil shield seems to eliminate cap jams. With the proper lube, cylinder binding with the barrel is not an issue. This is a very good gun for the price! The quality is outstanding!

Review: I live about 15 mikes from the historic marker near Anderson Texas where some of these JH Dance Brothers pistols were made. Live the history but needed a replica of the Dance pistol and boy is this one a dandy! It is a fantastic replica and a show piece extraordinaire. A beautifully done to every detail. Love it

Review: I got this because I was drawn to unique style of this revolver. The way it is designed without a recoil shield kind of makes me think of it as a confederate last ditch revolver. As with most cap n ball revolvers, it shoots a little high out of the box. It still is very nice to shoot because the sight picture is the best that I have seen on a replica so far. One product that I recommend to compensate for the lack of a recoil shield is percussion cap keepers. They are available on ebay. What they... More details

Review: The revolver is excellent copy. The bluing and case color are first class. Dealing with EMF was outstanding. I got a follow up phone call, to verify who I was. At that point I was told how much shipping was by their sales representative. Shortly after speaking with I got a email confirmed delivery and a package routing number. I can say I will be planning another purchase in the near future.

Review: Once again I was pleasantly surprised to receive such a beautiful replica of a very rare gun. Fit and finish was perfect as was the lockup and timing. You know it really does payoff to buy EMF in my experience as recently I just purchased a Uberti revolver from Midway USA that was timed so poorly that the cylinder would not line up with the barrel when the trigger was pulled back all the way. Midway does not inspect their guns prior to shipping and they do not accept returns. I am now in the pro... More details
